Figuralni spomeniki v Kranju in okolici

Na nastanek in poznejšo usodo spomenikov vplivajo družbene in politične razmere. To potrjuje tudi pregled figuralnih spomenikov v Kranju in okolici. Njihovi avtorji so vodilni slovenski kiparji 20. stoletja. V Kranju so štirje figuralni spomeniki pesnika dr. Franceta Prešerna: doprsni kip v Prešernovi hiši (Frančišek Smerdu, 1949), celopostavni kip (Frančišek Smerdu v sodelovanju s Petrom Lobodo, 1949–1952), doprsni kip (Lojze Dolinar, 1962) v Prešernovem gaju in doprsni kip (Zdenko Pavič, 1985) pred osnovno šolo Franceta Prešerna. Med novejšimi spomeniki so doprsni kipi dr. Janeza Bleiweisa (Metod Frlic, 1997), Friderika Barage (Mirsad Begić, 2002), Rudolfa Maistra (Alenka Vidrgar, 2002) in Rudija Šeliga (Drago Tršar, 2006).

Figural monuments in Kranj and surroundings

Social and political conditions affect the creation and later destiny of monuments. This is confirmed by a survey of figural monuments in Kranj and surroundings. Their authors are the leading sculptors of the 20th century. Franc Berneker made the fountain of Sv. Janez Nepomuk (1911 to 1913), which was designed as a public monument. Tine Kos was the author of the monument to King Peter Karađorđević I (1926).The first large-scale monument of the new ruling dynasty on Slovene territory was destroyed by the Germans. Lojze Dolinar produced the statues and relief for the Monument to the Revolution (1960/1961). After the Second World War, a number of monuments to the national liberation war and revolution were created (including by the sculptors Boris Kalin and Stane Keržić). There are four figural sculptures to the poet Dr. France Prešeren in Kranj: a bust in Prešernova hiša (Frančišek Smerdu, 1949), a full-size statue (Frančišek Smerdu in cooperation with Peter Loboda, 1949–1952), a bust (Lojze Dolinar, 1962) in Prešernovo gaj and a bust (Zdenko Pavič, 1985) in front of the France Prešeren primary school. More recent monuments include a bust of Dr. Janez Bleiweis (Metod Frlic, 1997), Friderik Baraga (Mirsad Begić, 2002), Rudolf Maister (Alenka Vidrgar, 2002) and Rudi Šeligo (Drago Tršar, 2006).
