The Musician PETER LIPAR (1912-1980)
100 years after his birth and 30 years after his death/ Outline – mini posthumous portrait
The Slovene composer, conductor, teacher–headmaster and organizer, Peter Lipar (Mengeš, 30 December 1912 – Kranj, 13 August 1980) came from the famous composition school of the Slovene musical modernist, Slavko Osterc (1895-1941). He worked in Kranj for his entire professional life, whereby he has still today left an indelibly seal in various musical activities. In addition to pedagogic success and success in conducting and leading choirs, in all of his activities and especially with his creative musical opus, he reached far beyond the borders of his narrower homeland. The France Prešeren and Stane Žagar choirs and the ensemble of Kranj Music School have first place among his creative achievements. More than 300 works in Lipar's opus are designated choral; including some 268 choral works a cappella. The inventory of his works is therefore equally extensive (Bibliography). He received several national and international awards and recognitions for his activities.
