Kranjski tiski do druge svetovne vojne

Kranjska knjižna produkcija ni dosegla niti odstotka tistega, kar je knjig izšlo v Ljubljani. Občasnega izdajanja so se lotevali domači knjigovezi in knjigarnarji ter tiskarji Ignac Kremžar, Pavel Bizjak, Viljem Požgaj, Ivan Primož Lampret, Od drugega desetletja 20. stoletja dalje je katoliške publikacije izdajalo Tiskovno društvo, liberalske pa družba Sava. Šlo je za verske (molitveniki), turistične (razglednice, vodniki), šolske (učbeniki, letna poročila), društvene tiske, politične brošure, humor, ezoteriko (sanjske knjige) in prevedeno pustolovsko berilo. Vidnejši kranjski pisatelji so objavljali pri založbah drugje po Sloveniji. Izvirno leposlovje najdemo v Gorenjski knjižnici (Josip Lavtižar, Peter Bohinjec, Gustav Strniša, Ivan Pregelj) ali v samozaložbi, kjer izhajajo pesniške in mladinske knjige. Med drugo svetovno vojno se je v Kranju v velikih nakladah tiskala nemška propagandna literatura.

Kranj Printing Presses up to the Second World War

Kranj book production did not achieve a fraction of the books that were published in Ljubljana. The occasional publication was undertaken by local bookbinders and booksellers and the printers Ignac Kremžar, Pavel Bizjak, Viljem Požgaj and Ivan Primož Lampret. From the second decade of the 20th century onwards, Catholic publications were published by Tiskovno društvo (Printing Society) and liberal ones by the company Sava. These were religious works (prayer books) tourist materials (postcards, guides), school texts (textbooks, annual reports), social printing, political brochures, humour, esoterics (dream books) and translated adventure stories. More prominent Kranj writers were published by publishing houses elsewhere in Slovenia. Original literature could be found in Gorenska library (Josip Lavtižar, Peter Bohinjec, Gustav Strniša, Ivan Pregelj) or was self-published, by which poetry and books for the young were published. During the Second World War, German propaganda literature was printed in Kranj in large print runs.
