JOKLOV ROD IN JOKLOVA MLADOST PREDSTAVITEV BRATA IVA SLAVCA JOKLA – NARODNEGA HEROJA

JOKL'S LINEAGE AND JOKL'S YOUTH A PORTRAIT OF MY BROTHER, IVO SLAVEC JOKL – A NATIONAL HERO

Ivo Slavec - Jokl, son of father Ivan and mother Ela, was born on the 30th of April 1916 in Jesenice. He was a preterm infant, which is why his mother Ela was constantly worried for his life. Out of this worry grew a boundless love between mother and child, which lasted all the way until Ela's death. Ivo was a devoted Slovene, “the great son of a small nation, never anyone's lackey”. He would never give his word, since he was convinced that a word given was sacred, and should never be broken. He loved the mountains, he loved life and he dearly loved his two children, Janez and Metka, who were born during the most trying of times for all the peace-loving nations of the world. He was a devoted partisan, an organizer of the resistance against the occupying forces that wished to rule the world on the basis of the superiority of the “aryan race”. This “race” was well-known to Ivo, having attended the high school in Kočevje in the period before the war – which is why his decision to join the resistance was not a whim, but well thought-out, entirely deliberate and powerfully passionate.
