Tranzicijska agonija v devetdesetih letih ter finančna in gospodarska kriza svetovnega formata v letu 2008 sta globoko in usodno zarezali v tekstilno in obutveno kranjsko industrijo.

THE DOWNFALL OF KRANJ'S INDUSTRY AFTER THE YEAR 1990

The issues of the re-structuring of Slovenia's economy revealed themselves in 2009, when the country officially entered a period of recession as a result of the global financial and economic crisis. This was the first recession since the transformative recovery. We were once again faced with a decrease in economic activity, businesses were closing down and unemployment was rising. Many businesses in Kranj were faced with restructuring and reorganization. The key issues were an inadequate restructuring of the businesses and an insufficient financing of technological development and new investments. The case of the hard labour sector is particularly jarring: what was once the pride of not only Kranj's industry, but also Slovenia and Yugoslavia's, is now history. The transitional agony of the 90's and the global economic crisis of 2008 have cut deeply and mercilessly into the well-being of Kranj's textile and footwear industries.
