AGRICULTURE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF KRANJ AFTER  THE YEAR 1990

The article presents the agricultural efforts in the municipality of Kranj after Slovenia gained its independence and the local self-government system was reorganized. It shows the characteristics, general state and structural changes in agriculture in the local area and compares them to agriculture in Slovenia and partly also the broader EU. The article discusses agricultural economies according to their numbers and orientation, the state of the technical equipment, employment and performance, production scope, economic power, agricultural land in use and the level of afforded self-sufficiency regarding basic agricultural products. According to the data in the article, the state of agriculture in the municipality of Kranj is above the Slovenian average, but below average when compared to the older member countries of the EU. Experts agree that the development of agriculture in Kranj and in Slovenia in the past few decades has suffered from a lack of a well-formed state agricultural policy, instead being governed by the influences of globalization.
