KRANJSKA LIKOVNA PRIZADEVANJA V OBDOBJU DRUGE JUGOSLAVIJE

Zgodnja petdeseta leta v Kranju zaznamujejo dejavnosti v »prešernovskem ozračju« in v duhu socialističnega realizma pod vplivom novoustanovljene Akademije za likovno umetnost v Ljubljani.

ARTISTIC EFFORTS IN KRANJ IN THE PERIOD OF THE SECOND YUGOSLAVIA

The early 1950's in Kranj were marked by efforts in the “Prešernian atmosphere” and the spirit of socialist realism under the influence of the newly established Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. Owing to the efforts of local art critics (Dr. Cene Avguštin), local artists were joined in their exhibitions by other Slovenian artists and eventually artists from other republics and even foreigners. This brought a breath of fresh air and international influences to the local scene. Within the ambit of the Museum of Gorenjska, yearly presentations of contemporary artistic production from the region were held. At the end of the 60's, there were several conceptualist groups active in Kranj – these were parallel to the other »official institutions«. In the 1980's, there was a marked increase in the number of smaller and larger exhibitions spaces, be they privately owned, managed by societies or supported by businesses and industry.
