POMEMBNEJŠA NAGROBNA PLASTIKA NA OBMOČJU  MESTNE OBČINE KRANJ

Figuralna nagrobna plastika predstavlja dodatno likovno vrednost slehernega nagrobnika.

NOTABLE GRAVE SCULPTURE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF KRANJ

Figurative grave sculpture represents an added artistic value for every tombstone. On a symbolic level, it represents the spiritual connection between this world and the next. Symbols play a crucial role in the formation of spiritual messages. Figurative gravestone sculpture is not mere material or form – it is primarily a spiritual creation. The sculptural works can be very varied according to the material and typology, but their fundamental message is always quite similar: though we mourn the passing of our loved ones, the emphasis is on life, not death. The gravestones are a source that allows us to study local history, stonemasonry and sculptural creativity. Many abandoned historical tombstones are falling into disrepair because there is no apparatus in place for their appropriate evaluation and the financing of their preservation. Because of this, we are losing a number of unique works of art. This is why the conservation professional community is striving to save gravestones from abandoned or restructured graveyards and preserve them in lapidariums.
